I think in NSW think the largest legal turbo engine you can use in a 1000 is 
1.6Litres, I'm not 100% on that I believe there is a formula to work this out. As far 
as the 'easier' swap, they both will be difficult to fit, particularly the gearbox as 
the 1000 has a small tranny tunnel . The engine mounts in the 1000 are fairly similar 
to the 1200, but this is irrelevant if you're not using an A series. you'll need to 
make new ones\modify the crossmember to suit anyway. I reckonit'd be a biig job, but 
its not impossible.  In facT, I reckon a 1200 would be easier straight off  because it 
has struts which you can swap to get bigger brakes, big brakes in a 1000 is more 
complicated.
