Listers,

My R200 is finally in. Luckily for me, it was ready to bolt into a 1600 when
I purchased it. The output shafts had been converted to the 1600 4-stud
flange type, and the rear cross member(the one at the back of the diff) was
designed for a 1600.I found the easiest way to install it was to lower the
rear cross member, slot the diff in, and line every thing up as you raise it.
Once in desired position, tighten all bolts. I assume this is standard
operating proceedure for all Datsun Diff swaps. The R200 is heavy and
awkward, so I got a mate to help me line it up and slot it in.

The only mods I had to do was grind away some of the cross member at the
bottom of the hole that the diff went into, and get a tailshaft made up. The
tailshaft was shortened by 12mm and the R200 flange was welded on in place
of the R160 flange. The work was done by Woden metal and engineering centre
in Dundas Court, Phillip. They gave me the cheapest quote by far, I could'nt
believe my ears when they told me the price($88), half the price of most
other places!!!!!.

This is the over all cost;

*$350 for the 4.4 LSD R200(out of a written-off 1600)

*$88 for tailshaft mods

*$21.30 a litre for Castrol SAF-XA synthetic Diff oil.(need 1.6 litres)

*$10 for paint-purely for cosmetics only.

While I was under the car, I placed in a centre-mount handbrake. The job was
finished at 1am this morning.(love lying on that cold concrete on a 1 degree
Canberra night!!)Once completed, I double checked every thing I had touched,
lowered of the chassis stands, and then went for a quick blast. AS soon as I
drove down my street I noticed it had quicker acceleration(4.4 ratio) and on
the first corner, the car griped to the road like glue.Went to my local dirt
carpark, and enjoyed the controllable sideways action that only LSD can
deliver.

All I need now is a fast engine!

Anyway,thanxs for the advice everyone.

Damien.
