Rod,
With a dash light fault you firstly have to work out if it's a supply or an
earth problem. If your oil and pbrake lights work then it's likely the
general backlighting fault will be supply related. Pin 2 (red) is 12v from
the fuse panel and Pin 3 (Green/white trace) supplies 12v from the light
switch.
As for the rest of the problems, I'd have to see it with a multimeter in
hand to get an idea what's going on. How is the alternator wired, some
replacements are wired direct to the battery but it should be disconnected
if you take the high amp leads off.
regards
Terry

Subject: electrical probs
g'day all
firstly my dashlights aren't working. current is getting past the
switch and dimmer and all of the lights but the tacho/clock and the
backlights aren't getting current. all other lights are working. any
suggestions?
also when i totally disconnect the battery, there's still a voltage on
the dead side of the fusible link. i think the starter motor is
retaining a voltage. also there is always a voltage on the accessories
line even when key's off.
i'm stumped so any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
rod woolf
