I've got the Z20E running in the wagon but I'm looking for some suggestions because it's basically running like a bag of shit.  It idles pretty consistently but backfires a bit (big flame/spark from the exhaust). When you give it some throttle it just whinges and carries on and just about dies, but will sometimes build revs, and when it does it blows a ton of smoke (which smells kinda like fuel and is blueish in colour)
 
How likely is it that lifting the engine by the head has damaged the head gasket?  I suspected a vacuum leak but I have checked every hose I can find.  The timing (dizzy) is identical to what it was in the sedan, and I double checked the firing order with the 'rabbit eared' valves to find TDC.  The computer is hooked up exactly the same way as it was in the sedan too.  It's run fine (but bloody loudly) previously with only 12" of exhaust.  It also has been kept vertical the whole time, and I've tried it with both the old TPS and the new one Errol sent me.
 
It's got me stumped because it ran perfectly in the sedan only a few weeks ago!
 
Anybody got any ideas?!
