Terry,
I did the test that you explained and there was no power reading at all. I
also checked the single control wire that goes to the solinoid and there was
no power getting to there at standby or on ignition. Also, I checked the
power to the key plug and there was none there either.

As far as wiring up the ignition relay, maybe you caould give me a good idea
on what to do:

* The relay has the plugs 30, 85, 86, 87 and 87.

* 1 thin red wire coming from the +ve on the solinoid (has power)

* 1 earth wire from strut tower

* 1 wire coming from the +ve on the battery

* 1 blue with white tracer coming from the loom

* 2 wires coing to one plug from the loom, yellow and an off white?

* 1 yellow wire going to the alternator (-ve terminal?)

I have tied a few combinations of these wires onto the relay but none of
them produced lights (headlights parkers etc) but if there is another
problem then maybe they wont at the moment...

I appreciate any help you can give to get another Datto back on the road.

Cheers,
Anthony

Anthony,

Set the multimeter to 12v and test the big white wire on the fuse box. Pull
the plug out and connect the Red multimeter lead to the loom end and the
Black multimeter end to a good earth or the Battery -ve terminal. You must
find out if there is power in that white wire before we can progress on this
problem.

Terry

Thanks for your replies Zac and Terry,

I used the multimeter to test a few things:

* The white wire that connects to the fuse box (between the two plugs) and
the other end that has a fusible link and joins to the negative terminal of
the solinoid has 0 resistance.

* Power is travelling through the + and - on the solinoid.

* As far as we can tell there is no earth leak as the battery level is fine

I'm still not getting any reds or headlights.

Terry,
Does the ignition relay need to be wired up to fulfill your test? Also I
dont think I'm getting power to the fuse box... ???

I'm now terribly lost and am looking at getting an auto sparky to look at
it. Any recommendations in the Penrith area?

Electricallty illiterate,
Anthony

Zac,
My very thought when I read this - we've taught you well!

Anthony,
Check that the big white wire that goes into the fuse block, it connects to
the fuse box in between the other two plugs. This wire comes from the
starter solenoid and sometimes has a fusible link in place and is usually
where an AMPS gauge is wired into the loom. On the loom side of the plug
there are actually 2 wires that join at the plug, a white wire and a
white/red trace wire. If there is no power at this plug then nothing in the
car will get power except for relays that are connected directly from the
battery or solenoid. The symptoms you describe are in line with this area
being a problem.

regards
Terry

Anthony have you given the loom power?
I think (from memory) that comes from a bigger white wire and it goes to the
starter or alternator.. Terry should be able to help!
