George,
Take it from a SOB, do something about your insurance as soon as you can as
the ramifications are the worst imaginable if you are involved in an at
fault accident when you're not confident about your insurance cover.
It doesn't much matter which line you use with an insurance office as long
as you get a straight answer.
Personally, I'd use something along the lines - "I'm thinking about buying a
1970 Datsun 1600 which is in good conditions but has a few modifications,
I'm nn years old, good driving record, live at blah and I was wondering what
the 1/3rd party property premium would be for me on this car?"
you'll get "Not interested" there and then or the next question will be -
"What modifications?"
Have a list made up etc and continue from there.
regards
Terry

Good point! That's what got me thinking in the first place. I think I'd
better give them a call....but how do I word it if the car has already been
modified? Do I say, "I'm thinking about modifying my car", or should I say,
"I've just completed work to my car". I don't want to get caught out if you
know what I mean.
