Nissan made the R31 interceptors in naturally aspirated form as a special
based on the GTS skylines through the Special vehicle division. SVD. They
had some changes to suit police pursuit work mainly mild cam better brakes,
Gibson handling package, 15 x 8" steel rims.
Most of these went to Tasmania where they are still remembered with much
fondness by the people that drove them. They were rumoured to be able to
wrap the speedo of the dial at over 240 kph where the needle hits the speedo
housing. @ 6100rpm in 5th gear. The handling was exemplary I am told. Very
neutral and predictable.
The cars were snapped up at auction when sold of to get the new commodores
that every one hated.
Cheers

2 R31 Turbos were only trailed in Canberra but the VL Calais Turbo got the
nod for the job, I seem to recall these were ordered straight from SA as
they already had a "pursuit" special to order. The ACT coppers use Volvo V70
Turbos (2.3 5 cylinder, ~190Kw) at the moment to try and catch the Soobie
boys (with mixed fortunes).

Terry

In which states did the police use the skylines? Is it
correct that some of the police skylines were turbo?
Someone told me they were, not exactly sure myself.
