I'm running a "fuelstar" on my 1600 with twin SU's. It is an in-line fuel
additive unit originally developed by the British in World War II so they
could run their trucks on dodgey Russian fuel. It is basically a canister
full of an alloy of tin (tinamide) which replaces the lead additives in the
old super (leaded petrol). Engine vibration shakes the unit which grinds up
minute particles of the tin and these are then sucked into the carby. Sir
Jack Brabham recommends it "for all vehicles". Not only does it reduce
emissions, (up to 50% less Nitrous oxides and reduction in other nasties)
but it also reduces valve seat recession by putting a layer of tin on the
valve seating surfaces. This in turn provides a better seal and therefore
increases performance/decreases fuel useage typically around 8%. It also
de-carbonises the engine as is evidenced by the fact your engine oil goes
totally black 1000km after you install it. I am not trying to flog this
product to anyone, but I reckon it works pretty well. I have some literature
lying around on it and I've left out a few things but if anyone is
interested I'm sure there is a web site or something around. They are'nt
cheap, but for less than about $300 it's pretty good for what it does and
it's guaranteed for 500,000 km. I got mine from Caron Corporation here in
Perth, WA.
Cheers,
Rob
