There are rumours getting around that they are going to let Toyota compete
in the V8's in the future. I can just imagine a Chev engine in an Avalon
body. LP was thinking of building a Commy body with all Ford running gear in
it for a laugh but Castrol weren't impressed with the idea. He originally
put a Ford front end into the VT and run with it a couple of years ago,
there's nothing in the V8 rules that locks you into the body manufacturers
original running gear which makes them nearly hybrid Sports Sedans as such.

The HSV Commodores have run Ford 9" diffs (Dana's?) for many years. (Since
IRS was fitted at least) When you add the Hollinger Box and the Chev engine,
plus the hand build bodies with the internal braces, it makes you think a
bit about how they can actually link back to the showroom car!
