Nick,

There should be no slop in the idler arm. Something not right with yours,
may be it's been replaced by a PO with something non-Stanza or non genuine.
This was a problem area with early Stanzas and most of us replaced them with
a TRW or 555 complete unit as the Nissan ones were crap. This was fixed in
the Series 2 Stanza as my SSS didn't have any such problems as the S1 GX
did.

regards
Terry

Subject: idler arm slop

G'Day List,

I had some slop in my idler arm, you could lift the arm up there was that
much slop.
I replaced the bushes, but still there was slop.
The idler arm shaft is too small for the bushes.

I even replaced the whole steering rack assembly - same problem.

I just wrapped the idler arm shaft with a few turns of newspaper (dodgy,
only for experimentation purposes) and the problem went away the steering is
sweet as.

Is this slop standard or am I missing a sleeve or something?
I cannot believe that the shaft has worn down that much and that evenly on
both arms.

What can I do to fix the problem properly?
