Damien,

The thing with the Z motors is that unless you want to turbocharge them or be content with a fairly stock motor, they are not the best choice for a naturally aspirated engine.  You can't use lumpy cams because the valves point at each other, so with a large amount of overlap would hit each other.  If the ex-grandma L18 is in good condition, just find a L-series factory EFI manifold, a mild cam, and a fuel-only computer.  NAPS/Z actually stands for Nissan Anti-Pollution System, it's definately not performance gear, as I said before it's redeeming feature is readily available EFI and T03 exhaust manifolds, and the bolt-in conversion as opposed to the expensive conversion kits needed for FJ/SR/CA swaps.  The Z20E I bought from Errol was $950 + freight (complete: computer, sensors, gearbox etc).

Subject: RE: I'm back to Datsuns

Tom and Dan,

The 180B belongs to my brother, and whilst he has good taste (he purchased a datsun!) he is not really interested in the high performance of a turbo FJ or Z engine. However, it is time that he upgraded, and instead of refitting a L why not go a Z, providing that it is not to dear. I want his car to be reliable and reasonably powerful, for when he drives to the alps/coast, and also so he has confidence in his car. If a FJ was going anywhere, it would be going into my beloved 68' 1600!!!!!

Do you know roughly how much a Z motor is worth ( with all the trimmings-a 'long' motor)?

Datsuns will always rule

Damien.
