hi, i just remembered that there might have been a  diy kit for a knock sensor ( including a diy sensor !!) in either a old issue  of electronics australia, or silicon chip magazine, might be worth emailing them to ask.

Thanks, I think I might use a microphone attached to the block and a filter instead of a knock sensor.  As the knock sensors filter out certain frequencies depending what car they were made for.
