Zac, We are actually both right on this - I was sure I was right as I remembered that in 1986 F3000 was born out of all of the old F1 cars that used the Ford DFV8 that no one wanted anymore and this is where many of the current F1 drivers came from - Mark Webber did quite well in F3000 and I think Ralf Shooey won F3000 to. I don't remember 1986 as a turbo only year either but that's what it says as I looked this info up on the official F1 site.
78-82 3.0L NA 83-85 3.0L NA or 1.5L turbo 86 1.5L turbo only 87-88 3.5L NA or 1.5L turbo 89-94 3.5L NA (78-94 all engines max 12 cyls) 95 on 3.0L NA V10 only regards Terry -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Zac Campbell Sent: Thursday, 15 November 2001 5:05 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Boost vs Cubic inches Terry the choice was a 3.5l (not 3.0l) or 1.5l turbo.. I am quite sure anyway. then they kept 3.5l for a while, now down to 3l? yeah the turbo were quick but didnt have the reliability. that said, the 1988 tag/porsche mclaren was a v6 twin turbo and took out 15 of the 16 races! zac ----- Original Message ----- From: Terry Rudd <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2001 1:50 PM Subject: Re: Boost vs Cubic inches > > zac, > you may also recall that the 3.0L NA cars and the 1.5L Turbos ran against > each other for a couple of seasons and until they sorted the turbos out > they didn't win very often and then it all changed when turbos were banned and > the capacity was 3.5L in any config for a short time before going back to 3.0L > in V10 only. > > regards > Terry > > > Sorry to be a smart-arse (I'm an F1 nut too) but the 80s F1 turbo cars were 1.5 > > litre.
