Exciting news for all Turbo guys out
there.
I was talking to an engine builder last (He was
modifying my crank) and we started talkinf FJ20 turbo's. He told me that Nissan
has just released a new turbo design, intended for small trucks, which he
believes will suit the FJ20 perfectly.
The turbo is a roller bearing turbo, which I know
is not a new thing, but what they have done is used a large exhaust wheel
housing and added a flap inside. This flap stays closed until a pre determined
level, effectively giving you the effect of a smaller turbo (eg, it spools up
quicker) once it reaches a certain level the flap is opened to allow the boost
to keep rising. It was apparently published in the latest Automotive engineering
magazine, and hasn't even reached the "hot up" shops yet.
The flap is electronically controlled, so creep
shouldn't be an issue, and can be set to open at any level as programmed.
Obviously You will need a programable output on you Engine management to control
it.
Don't ask me any more about it, as I don't know
much more, but keep your eyes open.
Mark.
