Hi  this may seen like a funny fix .. But Had a problem car with the same  "starting"   symptoms ,Got the injectors cleaned .. checked the Water temp sensor   ect no luck .. The problem was caused by a battery.. as when it was cranked it loaded the battery up and made the Engine control unit do funny things due to a lower normal than  voltage .. after that the engine ran normally ..was only on start ups .. the Battery gave you the impression that it was in good conditon and not bad one  when  this happened ..but end up putting a new batery in and it was fixed ... Another    problem is carbon build up on the back of the valves   it  absorbs  the fuel  from the injectors  .. when you start up .. causing the engine to back fire through the inlet track .. the engine isn`t very resonisive as well .. Decarbon the valves and wow .. the engine comes alive ..   I have used a machine which uses crushed walnut shells to clean the carbon off while the heads are on the engine still ..works very well ..  And it is SAFE .. ..Well there is a few ideas ... Btw I am a Automotive tech  but i Don`t work on holdens for a living   Cheers Cameron

Subject: OFF TOPIC Holden V6

Listers,
This is off topic, i apologise, but all you people are a goldmine of information.
The problem is with a VR commodore V6. The damn thing starts like shit. It coughs and splutters and blows a heap of black smoke out of the exhaust. Usually taking two or three go's to start. It will fire run rough and stall.
When it is running it is fine. the local holden dealer has tuned it, cleaned the injectors, but they don't know whats wrong with it.
Any one had experience with holden V6's.
