Gday About a month ago i had to cruise down to canberra to drop off some stuff to a mate, i drove down there, then as i was crusing back just near the picton turn off my car just shat itself, smoke started coming out of the engine bay andf the accelerator dropped to the floor and the engine lost power. I took the turn off rolled up the hill and pulled to the side of the road and the fire was really going now. I didnt have an extinguisher so i just got my bag and got the hell out of there. About 3 minutes later a off duty copper drives by and pulls over he had an extingusiher then puts the fiore out, it had also started a small grass fire which he put out. I just left it there and eventuallt got a train and bus and walk back to my joint. I had to go to melbourne the next day for the football so my mate whose family own the sevro at bexley went out the next night and picked the car up for me and took it to the servo. I now no that Andrew Peters bought it. That name rings a bell i think heis on the list. Good luck mate. It is a 1969 model, you mightin know becasue of the fire in the engine bay but it has one of those desirable black 'datsun 1600 OHC ' engine covers. You will just have to paint it. The gearbox works but it is 4 speed and it crunchy , the change from 3rd to 2nd can be a real bitch at times. It handles ok, i was thrashing the hell out of it and it was fine. I think the fire started becasue the hose resting on the engine cover caught fire cause the engine cover was so hot, it just spreadf from there. It was my first car i bought it about 15 months ago. It was a great car to drive but for passengers it was shithouse. Very fun. I am broke at the moment so no replacement staright away but maybe later on when im older and richer i will purchase a datto that has been done up already. I still love the 1600's one of the best ever looking cars. Getting fitter by the day cycling everywhere.hehehe.
