Jason, If you want more oil at the top of the motor you can open up the oil jet in the block slightly.

They can help and it's a back up if you install one. They do have a tendancy to block up (make sure you change your filter regularily) and then you cam will warp if you dont have a self oiled cam in there like the pinto's. These days with good oil pumps better oils and the like they arent really nescessary, even for racing.
