i am about to take the head off my FJ20 turbo and was wondering what the trick is to keeping the chain from dropping?

you can't seem to use a block like you would with a L or Z series.

would i be right in saying i should remove the  chain tensioner first so the chain doesn't push in too far,
then unbolt the cam sprockets, keep them marked and preferably attached to the chain via cable tie
or tie wire. then keep the chain held up tight so it doesn't drop off the crank sprocket?

i have the sump off also so if i mark the crank/chain area i should be right if it does move...right? that way all
three sprockets are marked against where they should be on the chain...

p.s.  the reason for this isn't the head gasket as previously hoping for... i think it may be more sinister...
this morning it decided to rattle, like a conrod wobbling around when it shouldn't.... which when removing
the plugs, showed #1 to have a plug gap of 0mm
