Hi Jimmy, Mine was set up like that stock. You have probably connected it to the wrong pin on the switch. Use a multimeter and check for the pin that is earthed only when the switch is in the 2nd position. Put the multimeter on ohms and check resistance to ground is close to zero only when the switch is in the 2nd position. On my switch it was the middle pin closest to the switch plunger.
