Title: RE: Crankcase breathing was god bless webers!!!!!

So performance is the reason that cars have catch cans?  Or is it to recover the vapoured oil?

    Andrew,

You are 100% correct about the performance robbing
comment, I used to have some figures around here on
the effects and it can be quite significant. Even new
Engines burn a small amount of oil.

I have found the most effective, cheap, legal and non
performance robbing system is to make up a an oil
    seperator.

The folowing description is not meant to be demeaning,
its just that some listers may not be aware of what an
    oil/air seperator does;

It is simply a receptacle that collects the oily fumes
from the engine and seperates the oil from the air,
allows the "cleaned air" to escape back into the
atmosphereare via a filter and the oil to drain back
    into the sump.

Costs from about $70-$170 to make (depending on how
fancy you want to make it look), looks trick, improves
    performance and is legal.

    Regards

    Fergy
