If the regulator malfunctions, the battery gets charged at a very high voltage and gasses freely. That is why you need a vent. Hydrogen in an enclosed space is dangerous.
Also if you have a big stack and are upside-down, wrapped around a power pole with petrol leaking everywhere you may regret doing a dodgy job of securing and insulating the battery :) Nick > > From: Bob - Uni <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Subject: Re[2]: LEGALITIES OF BATTERY IN BOOT > Date: 08/02/2002 12:46:06 > To: "'[EMAIL PROTECTED]'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Hello Thomas, > > I always thought that this legislation was kind of stupid, then they > showed me an old picture at my mothers work (LPG supplier) of a car > where the bloke had a cylinder filled back in the days before rigorous > testing, it had a small leak and as he was driving out he got to the > gate, braked, and some dodgy wires leading to the brake lights of this > old kingswood ignited the gas mixture.
