I have aspirations of doing this once I get mine on the road :)

Errol told me that the CA18 bellhousing does bolt to L boxes, so if 
worst came to worse, you would just have to get one of those. I 
have a CA16 (externally same as CA18 apparently) and a CA20 
bellhousing in the driveway. 

>From what I remember, most or all of the CA20 bellhousing holes 
bolt to the block, but the CA16 starter doesnt fit, but it looks like 
an L series starter would except the solenoid fouls the block. What 
side is the starter on a CA18 with standard gearbox??

If a suitable starter can be found though, the combination looks 
promising...
