Cheers Nick,   What you are saying fits in with what Terry has also said. On top of that, it makes sense that something (a diode) may have failed, as it has not done this in the past. The light shines when there is a voltage difference (obviously), when the ig. is on and the alternator is not turning (12v one side ov other side) When the alternator is going there is 14v on both sides of the light and diode so it extinguishes. I'd be guessing that it has blown, or that there is a short somewhere.
