Leighton, The brake pedal height adjuster which is also the brake light switch actuator goes through the squarish plate that's attached to the side of the brake pedal with the nut on the back of it by about 3/16" or 3-4mm (not very far at all.) The nut on the front of the plate which is on the shaft is then locked down. If you change the position of the brake height adjuster then you will have to check that the brake light switch is still in synch. The brake lights should come on just after the pedal travels down a very small amount. If you have to adjust the switch position take the two leads off first as they'll twist up and damage the connections on the switch if you don't. These connections on a 1600 brake light switch are surprisingly fragile.
