Absolutely not so - lean fuel mixture will backfire every time and it has a
different sound to it, more of a crack sound like a whip and an ignition
backfire is much shorter in duration and muffled - with Weber DCOE
especially. Air leaks past the venturi i.e. manifold gasket, worn butterfly
shaft etc. and of course retarded ignition timing, stuck mechanical advance
mechanism.
