Thanks Chris,

Fair bit of reading there and from first glances it looks like the
regulations have changed a fair bit from last time I visited this issue.

regards
Terry

Hi Terry,

A 710 SSS should be no prob, any car pre 87 can be imported without
compliance hassles. Have a look at this from the Department of Transport
and Regional Services:

http://www.dot.gov.au/land/Imports_Certif/VSB10.pdf

Here are the relevant bits, page 4:

Import approval will be granted if one of the following requirements are
met:

<snip other stuff about low volume and personal imports>

. the vehicle is 15 or more years old on the date it lands in Australia,
or, for small trailers (less than 4.5 tonnes laden vehicle mass) was
manufactured before 1 July 1988.

See page 7:

VEHICLES 15 YEARS OR OLDER
Vehicles 15 years or older may be imported to Australia without
restriction. This
means there is no ownership and use requirements, or compliance plates
to be fitted,
but an import approval is still required.
Please note that the import approval is a Federal requirement and that
the vehicles
are not exempt from State or Territory registration requirements. You
should contact
from the motor vehicle registration authority in the State or Territory
where you intend to register the vehicle.

page 21 is the application form for import approval.

Cheers,

Chris

Someone posted a link to a NZ auto trader site a while back and I had a
gander at the cars on it. Skyline R31/32's galore for NZ$5-7k, if they
were that cheap in Aus we'd all have one and no one would buy a
Falcodores/Bitsa and the local manufacturing industry would be deader
than it already is - they aren't easy to import into Aus from NZ unless
you've owned it for some defined time over there. I looked at importing
a 710SSS and the costs were prohibitive except if it was cut into two,
funny they didn't have a problem with that.

Terry
