You
mean as in o thermostat fitted - if so then that's very likely as it does
regulate the temperature. The 1600 gauge doesn't register below ~160F and in
this cool weather that's about right. You shouldn't run an engine under
temperature as the oil is designed to lubricate properly at around 180F water
temp. With modern day oils it's not as big of a problem as in years gone by but
you still should run coolant and a thermostat.
