Rick 25 years ago I was your age now! Definitely putting me in the SOB category
Like you I was well into Dattos even then. They were plentiful and almost new! I was competing in 10 - 15 rallies at state level as a car owner/builder navigator, directing 1 event each year and course checking for others. I had a mate who could drive my car far harder and better than I (probably because it wasn't his). I wish I had never stopped rallying in the late 80's, but the Group N and 4wd cars, and going to fully route charted events, made it impossible for an amateur doing it for recreation to be competitive at that level. This NSW series for pre 1985 cars sounds just my scene. Speaking of being OLD, I recently bought a Datto badged sports steering wheel of a 79 year old guy. I asked him if he was selling his kids left over car stuff and he said no, it was the last of his stuff - from his rallying days. We had a nice long chat. He gave rallying away 14 years ago, at 65, just when he finished building his fourth very competitive Datto 1600. He then decided as he was retiring, he was too old to rally. He told me he bought a small caravan and towed it behind his just built Datto rally car for 22 thousand kms around Australia over the next 4 years. This Datto had all the right works rally gear and he still regrets selling it 10 years ago for the Volvo he now owns. He was selling this stuff because he had just retrieved it back from his son who reckons anything of the old mans that isn't "bolted down" is his. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick White" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Wednesday, 1 May 2002 23:51 PM Subject: Re: Dattos in the dirt > Richard. > Going back 25 years I was 4 and I thought I was old. > Damm. > Rick White. > > > >----- Original Message ----- > >From: "Richard Clough" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Sent: Wednesday, May 01, 2002 9:42 PM > >Subject: Re: Dattos in the dirt > > > > > >> Ive been poking around this AMSAG site.
