I reckon it did. I've ended up paying about $7500 so far which is the
engine, complete rebuild/balance/head work, new clutch setup, new turbo,
radiator which would have cost probably close to $3500. The rest has gone
out on the custom intercooler, exhaust system, fuel system, Wolf 3D, bigger
injectors, boost control etc, etc. I don't regret it because I've learnt
heaps, but for the 3500 bucks, I probably could have got the CA18det, thus
twin cam and good internals from standard. I still would have bought the
clutch and turbo but I wouldn't had to have rebuild the engine. Budget in
the fitting kit and I would have probably spent a shade under 3500 dollars
for that combo. I still would have done all the extra stuff like aftermarket
computer etc. As I said I don't regret going down the path I did as the way
I see it, if Nissan ever had put a turbo engine in the ol' 1600 it would
have been a single overhead cam 1.8/2.0L engine.

Food for thought anyway for those contemplating a turbo conversion.
