Hi Guys

 

I'm after the following info for an L18 engine.

• Dwell angel [Terry Rudd]     Hitachi 49 - 55 , Bosch 42 - 50 Timing single carb 10-12 btdc, twin carb 14-18 btdc
• Timing marks - is there 1 specific mark or more than 1? [Terry Rudd]     (assuming you have a static indicator plate bolted to the timing cover on passenger side (under dizzy) and the single notch in crankshaft pulley)  - from left to right 20, 15, 10, 5, TDC. The other type is a static pointer on the drivers side of the timing cover above the oil pump and the gradients are on the crankshaft pulley. The gradients are spaced the same on the crankshaft pulley but TDC is a deeper notch and some pulleys have a -5 gradient and they will go from right to left. Most L18's have the first type which is much easier to work with, especially using a timing light.
• idle speed [Terry Rudd]     Depends on a few things eg what's modified, somewhere between 600 - 1000 rpm, lower figure mild, higher for wild. Set idle (warm) to whatever sounds right for it so it doesn't jump around and stall etc. or doesn't scream.
• Spark plug gaps[Terry Rudd]      8 - 9mm (31 - 35')  For standard ignition components use lower figure, Bosch GT40 coil etc try using higher figure.
