Chris,

This sounds like you have a fairly common Bosch alternator and easy to wire
up in a 1600. Bosch Field (when present) and Ind terminals are opposite to
Hitachi just to confuse us and the markings, well they are something else
again, probably means something useful in German.

This Bosch alternator was sourced off a donor that has an electric choke, if
it was a Datsun then 200B/Stanza/Bluey S1 or S2 are likely contenders.

The B+ is Batt(ery) (thick white wire)

The D- terminal is just an Earth (Black wire) and is also used for the body
of a radio suppressor.

The D+ terminal is the Ind(icator) and this is where the Chg wire (yellow)
is connected to.

The + terminal which is a round plug inside a plastic square insulator is
where the choke wire goes, the idea is that the choke only gets power when
the alternator is charging. Not a perfect system as if the reg fails the
choke coil doesn't heat up.

Insulate the Field wire (White/black) so it doesn't touch anything and
create a shower of sparks (not likely but better to be safe).

OK, check the wire colours at the alternator especially the D+ terminal. If
you made a wire up, then where did you connect the other end to (should be
plugged into the White/red wire at the 6 pin external reg plug). Are any
wires connected at the 6 pin external reg plug behind the battery or is the
female connectors just open like the external reg was just unplugged and
discarded. For the Chg light to work you connect a pigtail from the Yellow
wire to White/red wire.

If everything looks like it hooked up correctly then Have you checked that
the alternator is charging OK? The dash light is good?

There's nothing too tricky with the '69 dash that I'm aware of so lets see
how you go before we start getting serious with it.

regards
Terry

Terry,

I dont want to put you on a pinnacle but have a go at this alternator.

Ive got a bosch IR one, but, in the normal T section it only has a male
terminal in the (--) position. In the (|) position there is a hole, but no
male terminal. Near the T, just up a little is a small white plastic
square with a small circle in the middle of it which looks like it may have
special connector in it, but ive never seen one like this. Next to that it
just has a (+) written in the casing. Over the other side is also a D-
inscribed in the casing next to a slotted screw.

Im pretty stumped and have been following other peoples questions and your
answers, but i cant get the ign light to come one on the dash!

Its a 70 model, but is a jap 69 shell with the long dash, not sure if it
makes any difference.

All the other connections are "normal" to what you've been saying.

4 pin connector to the alt

6 pin connector where the External REg used to be

any idea's???

Thanks

Chris (one of the other ones!)
