Yeah, its so that it works with wide band sensors, to interface with narrow band ones, a company (Dallas Semiconductor?) puts out a chip that requires only a handful of support components and some LEDS. I have seen one of the Jaycar kits that a mate built and put on an NA Liberty, it didnt really say much, cause they work over such a small range the LEDs go crazy over even the smallest throttle change, though it does seem to do its job ok.
