its made from a black pvc type plastic, it usuall goes on pressure pumps (water) lets water one way, but not the other, it is supposed to have a weak spring . its about 1.5 inch i.d , but can come in various sizes. the whole thing is about 4-5 inches or so in length. its got a round plastic disc, which has a V groove about a couple of mm from one end of the disc, and this is the point where it moves.... i went to some plumbing places to day, theey had a few different types, some made completey made from brass, different shapes etc. here is the link to have a look a it:
