guys I'm having a little difficulty with my pulsar
turbo, sorry if it's a bit off topic I just had a feeling someone on here might
have a clue what's going on.
Ok I was cruising around and the car was boosting
as per usual (18psi) then I went to boot it and it dropped off slowly down to
10psi, now it just will not go up past 10psi, no matter how far I wind the boost
controller out. My first guesses were either the wastegate was sticking open or
the boost controller was faulty. I pulled the wastegate hose off all
together and the car still wouldn't boost over 10psi. I thought ah well
it's the wastegate flap must be sticking, but when I popped the bonnet the turbo
was glowing red. This would indicate the turbo is working over time to
achieve this small amount of boost, if the wastegate flap was sticking open that
wouldn't happen the turbo wouldn't be working hard at all cause gasses would be
just flowing freely through the flap. So the only thing left (or so I
thought) was a boost leak. The turbo was glowing so red because it was
actually blowing a hell of a lot more boost than that, but the rest was
leaking. So I pulled all my intake piping off and checked all
the welds for cracks, not a crack to be seen. They're extremely neat
and well done tig welds. So I got the intercooler pressure tested, no leaks
there either.......so I'm completely stumped
can anyone offer any suggestions as to what else I
can check?
Dave
