That is an original RS1600, and a very well built machine at that. I know that car and if you had a look at it you would see the aluminium hats holding the rotors, the aluminium fluid reservoirs, and the attention to detail which the RS1600 is noted for.
The same level of engineering can be achieved with Datsuns however the 'off the shelf' modifications aren't as easily achieved. I can buy factory motorsport equipment over the net for an escort and bolt it straight in. Quaife centres, x members, quick racks, 4 wheel discs etc. The range is extensive due to the Escort being the UK's favourite rally machine for so long. I played with a lot of Escort gear when I was toying with TR7 V8's as a lot of the equipment is interchangeable. Colin Bond's TR8 rally car had all BDA Escort suspension under it. I still prefer Datsuns to the Escort, but I still have a very healthy respect for them and they would be my weapon of choice when works parts are totally unobtainable for Dattos.
