Hey List,
Ok I finally have some money
together to get a new diff for my 1600, but I need some advice as to which type
to get. I really don't want a locker because although I like the traction they
provide I like to be able to park in tight spaces etc, and an open diff is out
of the question too.
I was going to see if I could find
a Subaru R160 LSD but I have heard they are only viscous-centre and break open
when any sort of decent power is applied. The car's putting out about 210 rwhp
so it needs to be able to handle that.
Is it possible to get clutch-type
R160's? Would they be able to hold power ok?
How much would be the maximum to
pay for one of these and what would be the best place to look for
one (viscous and/or clutch type)?
The other option is a R180 LSD but
they are hard to find (unless someone out there has one they want to get
rid of?!) and pretty expensive ... which leaves an R200 LSD. I am aware
that you need a custom moustache bar and custom half shafts to fit these, so
could anyone give me an idea of how much you could expect to pay all up for one
of these (decent ratio, 3.7:1 to 4.11:1) + parts to fit in the
car?
Finally are there any other options
or types of diffs that fit or could be made to fit in a 1600 for $1000 or under?
Hopefully someone can set me on the
right track with this!
Thanks heaps,
Charlotte.
