Back in the sixties and seventies we were still trying to get over the
effects of WW2.  Japanese war planes and submarines bombed Australia in 1942
and many former soldiers refused to buy anything Japanese.  Of course
Japanese manufacturing became so good  and so much was produced, including
bloody good cars, even the most stubborn old soldiers eventually had to
declare Japan a winner.
