James, 
I think you are talking about the idler arm. I run a small heat sheild made up from 
1mm gal steel sheet. Just has a single bend in it and angles out from the chassis rail 
in front of the idler arm. It's held on with one bolt in a factory threaded hole in 
the chassis rail. I had to put it in to pass the engineers certificate.
