James,

$900 doesn't go real far in a brake shop even with stockers. I noticed that in another post you have decided to sell the 1600. If you change your mind then the easiest brake upgrade is to grab the complete struts of a 200B, and swap over your 1600 springs. The 200B SSS or imported wagon are the best as they come with the sort after Sumitomo callipers, but if you can't find these then the early Aussie models with Girlock callipers are OK. For the budget upgrade the trick is to get the struts with the best inserts fitted as they're the most expensive part to replace. Some wreckers will even sell you brakes off another strut, it just depends on their policy. The master cylinder you require is off a 180B (Japanese cylinder, Nabco or Tokico 3/4") or Sunny 13/16" Nabco - if you don't have a booster and want one, then you need  the  5" diameter Bendix Kiki off 180B, 120Y or B310. It's a bit of work to get it all in there, but far less expensive than the $900 you were quoted and you get far superior brakes. A trusted wrecker may even offer fitting, but you've got to know the guy pretty well before you venture down this path. The other downer on this upgrade is you nearly always require 14" wheels to clear the 200B brakes.

regards
Terry

Subject: Brakes, arrrghh

Hey Guys.

As a few of you may have picked up from my recent emails Im having some brake troubles on my 510. I have just been quoted 900 bucks to fix my existing brake system I thought this was a bit of a joke considering theyre just stocky 1600 disc/drum setup So Im looking at a complete brake system upgrade What can I do for around 500 dollars? Im looking at anything and everything.

Cheers Guys.
