I cant help you to choose the correct marker but I think I can help to clarify your question.

Do you mean the timing mark pointer that bolts to the timing cover bolts near the alternator?  If there is that much difference between the two pointers, you could set your engine to TDC statically, by rotating the crank to TDC on No1 piston firing stroke.  Then check each pointer to see which one aligns to the large notch on the crank pulley.

Subject: L20 timing markers

Which is the correct timing markers for a L20 engine?

Ive got two markers and im not sure which, there is a difference of about 20 degrees.  Now some will tell me that i should know from how the motor is running, but ive only just started this one and its still running in and ive got it idling high etc etc,

The two that i have both have two holes to mount next to the alternator

One marker means that 0 degrees is near to the upper bolt hole

The other makes 0 degrees nearly exactly between the bolt holes. ( i think it should be this one)

Any one got any idea's?

Thanks

Chris S
