Terry,
Thanks for the info.
Yes I think it is a U67 but definitely not standard pistons, they are alloy "Vignolia" (spelling?) pistons.
I'm guessing 910 is the Bluebird designation.
I have another stock L20B which came out of a Bluebird wreck.
The owner said it was a "high output black motor", it had "high energy" or something written on the aircleaner
and both the block and rocker cover are painted black. The rocker cover is black with "Nissan OHC" in RED letters,
so it must be faster ;-P . Is this the higher compression (9.2:1) motor, which you refer to as "black top"?
I got the stocker black L20B when my L18 with twin SU's died. I just took all the emission stuff and carby off the L20B
and stuck on the 38mm SU's. The black L20B stocker with SU's was a BIG disappointment after the mildly worked L18 though.
No guts and low revving. Boring in fact. And I thought the extra capacity would make a difference. That motor is
now sitting in one of my 1600 shells having a rest. Maybe one day I'll go down and see Andrew Smith and talk to
him about turboing it, but perhaps a lower compression L20B would be a better choice.

Regards,
Rob

Rob,

I've had a bit of a brain explosion while typing the last email - a U67 and most heads on L20B's have a chamber volume of 45.2cc. The total compression volume on a L20B is around 65cc - If it has stock pistons depending on what year it will have a CR of ~ 8.5:1 or 9.2:1 (if it's a 910 Series 2 black top.)

regards
Terry

Terry,
I can't recall any numbers on the head, I am back at work now and
probably won't have a chance to look at it until the weekend.
The motor is at a mates house. I do know that the head is about 3.8mm
from minimum shaved height, based on what my mechanic mate said.

cheers
Rob P

Rob,

To calculate CR you need bore, stroke and head volume - what head does it have on it? Most L20B have 41cc combustion chambers less a tad for any shaving etc example of L20B head is U67.

Terry

Any way of working out the compression ratio without pulling off the head?
The sump is off at the moment so I can measure piston throw. It's the volume
of the chamber at TDC that is gonna be hard to calculate.
