Andrew, Additionally to what you've said the Accessories feed (heater fan, radio etc) is Blue, and there is another Acc circuit for the wipers but this is a much smaller wire and shouldn't be used for a head unit. I've found that you can only draw up to around 100w through the primary Acc circuit with a Radio/CD/Cassette etc although the circuit is rated at 20 amps. What I do for the CD player/Amp etc is use a direct to battery feed via a mini Bosch relay and use the Acc circuit to switch the relay. Another thing to watch with wiring in a modern day CD that has a logic circuit in a 1600 is to fit an inline diode to the power feed. A logic circuit controls features like allowing power to the unit without the Ign on for a controlled time etc, but with older cars the logic circuit will try and power other things on the circuit, like the heater fan in a 1600 and that will destruct the circuit in the unit unless the flow of power is controlled. A few brands actually have a diode in the power feed but I've come across some that don't eg Phillips. The Phillips units have an activation option which shouldn't be used unless the diode is fitted. Some alarm systems are a bit funny with older cars for the same reason.
