Hi listers,

Been building a FJ1600 and got it started on Sunday. It rattled and Idled roughly. Took of rocker cover to check valve train, and noticed oil was milky-yuck!!!

Then, as I was looking at the timing chain assembly and tensioner I noticed that a bolt was missing from the top of the straight chain guide and the chain guide was cracked where the middle bolt is!!!!!

So I took the sump and timing cover off-(a dirty job),  and discovered the missing bolt at the bottom of the sump- I bet it did not go down quietly!!.  There doesnt appear to be any dents in the bolt or timin chain assembly so I might be lucky. Also at the bottom of the sump there was what looked like paint flakes??

Took the head off to discover it was blown!!!. I am getting the head crack and pressure tested today and cleaned and re-surfaced.

*Does anyone have a FJ in parts so I could buy a straight chain guide(the one oppisite the curved tensioner guide- left side if looking from drivers seat-it has three bolt holes)????

*How do you test a timing chain and tensioner for wear???

*I am getting a full gasket kit from Stewart Wilkins Motorsport in Sydney, It is $250, figure it is worth it when you add up cost of individual gaskets. Anyone know of a better price?????

*anyone used the Mazda ratchet assisted tensioner?? good, bad,any feedback there??

*Anyone used Nissan water pump for FJ? bought one from auto parts store, all I had to do was drill out one hole to accomadate bigger FJ bolt. The pully wheel sticks out a couple of millimeters more than the FJ one. It was half the price of the FJ pump from Stewart Wilkins. I think it was from a Z20. Any feedback on this one??

Sorry about all the questions but would greatly appreciate advice-this is my first FJ/EFI/import/turbo project and I am a little clueless.....

Thanks,

Damien
