dont use the stanza box iff it is a genuine 200horsepower engine the stanza box would never take it the 240K box would not be that good for it either

Subject: Clutch for a 200HP L20B
Date: Wed, 20 Nov 2002 15:57:51 +0800

Listers,
It is nearly time to put my worked L20B rally motor into the Datsun 1600.
What are my clutch options? My intended use is mainly for rallying on sealed roads and motorkhanas but also has to be driveable on the street occasionally. The twin 45 Webered motor apparently puts out 200 HP (150kW) at the flywheel. The flywheel is aluminium but with a hardened steel insert faceplate wear surface. The gearbox I will use is probably gonna be my trusty old 240K 5-speed or an untested Stanza SSS box. The clutch that came with the motor was a 3-puck brass button clutch but it is nearly gone and I've been told that they are pretty much either on or off with virtually no slippage (scarey in the wet).
I checked my archives and Mark K says an RB30 VL Commodore clutch will fit an L/Z series motor. Is this a heavier duty clutch than your standard L20B Bluebird replacement?

I use the clutch factory who are also known as precision clutch.Mines a 240mm
job.It uses a competition brass plate with a 3100lb pressure plate. Its not just
a standard type pressure plate with a heavier diaphram it has a different
fulcrom point and steel plate. The l20 flywheel had to be redrilled to suit.It
has stood up pretty well so far.Ive used there old style brass clutch with a
heavy diaphram pressure plate and that lasted a couple of weeks. The daikin
clutch i had lasted less than a week and was sliping in top gear from the word
go.

Now I don't want to redrill the flywheel, so will a standard type heavy duty clutch suffice?
Can I get the 3-puck brass button redone?

Sorry to waffle on but clutch changes are not my favourite job, I just want something with some slip that will stand up to some thrashing.

Cheers,

Rob P
