The L20 bottom ends are pretty robust units. The cranks are strong,so are the
rods and the blocks are strong except sometimes they can crack around the hole
for the head bolts.Balancing always helps smooth out the vibrations and helps
them rev.The rods can benefit from a polish and shot peen and new bolts.ACL
pistons seem to cope well with boost as long as it doesnt detonate.I know a few
guys running over 500hp from holden sixes using acl pistons.I think the largest
dish they do for the L20 is 10cc.If the block you use hasnt been decked then the
pistons should be about 1mm from the top.If you use an open chamber big port L20
head and clean up the combustion chambers a bit then you might get the
compression low enough to use a standard head gasket.
