I've only had mine about 7 years and have painted only about 5 cars with it and 3 dozen touch ups or so and it works fine with 12 cfm.
17 cfm is good if you wanna two or three air tools at once while you are painting your car. Remember you are pluging it in to your garage? Have you got 3 phase power? Cos if you want a hell compesser to paint your car once you are gonna need it. NAT, the best sort of paint finsh is done with a gravity feed gun,,These work on low pressure.
