I think about 800kg. The auto was probably stuffed before hand and a 700kg trailer would just expediate the symptoms.

These cars are getting on a bit now so this is bound to happen. FYI I towed another skyline (1400kg ) and a bloody heavy tandem trailer with my manual silhouette. I nearly didnt make it up the steep hill it was parked on but I made it home (30km or so) taking it easy. I dont' really want to do that again though, the clutch slip was huge taking off up the hill .

I'm asking for a friend. He towed a 700kg trailer to queensland and now he
reckons his auto is stuffed. Poor bastard now needs to get back to melbourne
but isn't sure if he's car will make it. From what he says the tranny is
leaking a little bit and he's using tons of fuel and cant drive it up even a
small hill without putting it back into first. What was the Factory torque
rating for a 3 litre auto skyline? What about horse power?

Gearboxes weren't the problem, especially the manual (pretty strong box)
but the diffs were, as far as I know.

Does anyone know what kind of load an 89 Skyline automatic can tow? I

they had problematic gear boxes. Is this true?
