Stuey, Carefully check that you have the polarity correct i.e. the positive and negative battery leads on the correct terminals. Starter motors just don't burn out even if there is a low battery problem. The battery could be internally shorting under cranking load, again this doesn't usually fritz a starter. I'd get someone else to have a look at it, you never know what they might see that you are missing.
