Subject: RE: Gearboxes, 4spd Vs 5spd
Andrew,

OK, I'll try to use the correct terms this time to avoid any further
confusion.

The main differences between a 1600 and 180B/Stanza/200B etc clutch:

The 1600 has an adjustable nut on the push rod and the 180B/Stanza etc
doesn't - refer Scientific Publications workshop manual SP #88 pg 75 for
picture of slave cylinder components;

To accommodate the adjusting nut, the 1600 release arm has a hole in the end
of it (pg 77), the others only have an indentation to secure the self
adjusting release rod.

The 1600 has a variety of release bearing holders, i.e. short and long. The
Japanese clutch was a coil spring type and is 10 - 12mm further away from
the flywheel at the 3 release fingers (pg 72) than the more conventional
(Aussie) spring diaphragm type (pg 73);

The Japanese clutch plate has 4 large cushion springs (Pg 72) and the Aussie
has 6 much smaller cushion springs (Pg 73) and that's about all there is
different.

regards
Terry

Hi Terry,

I was wondering could you pls elaborate a bit on the clutch release
bar part you mentioned - is this the clutch fork? What are the
differences, and how does the 5 speed one auto-adjust? i did not
realise there were different types.

Thanks
Andrew
