Mark.
As this car only cost me $250.00 when I bought it
4? years ago, and it had all the badges, ran perfectly and had 12 months of rego
on it, It had cost me a battery, a alternator, and a water pump to
keep it alive, I think even with these parts and the bright shiny new parts
have only cost me a total of $600.00, that includes the spare pile of
doors, boots, bonnets, passenger fender, 6xbumpers ect ect I have
collected for her.
So far I think this is actually going to be a
cheap restoration project(comparitivly)
I think the rego over the 4 years has cost me more
money than what I have spent on her as a whole.
Approximatly $350.00 a year times 4 years equals
$1400.00
Also I was unfortunatly in a small accident not to
long ago where out of four quotes the cheapest I was quoted was
$750.00
I have recieved this money finally.
Out of this quote I was payed $80.00 a side to
replace the old lenses that were cracked in the accident
(2 new tailights cost me $330.00) so I payed less
than double the quote and got whole complete nice new shiny
ones.
I already had a spare bumper which I was quoted
$200.00 for so that saved me that much
(That money goes towards the indicators and some of
the tailights)
I am still looking for the rear panel to replace
the dented one, but that will come hopefully soon.
All up I am ahead with this car any
hows.
I sold my old orange 1600 sedan a week after I
bought the SSS for $2800.00, this car only cost me approximatly $1500.00 to get
to the stage it was before I sold it.
I put the car on the side of the road for one day
with a 4 sale sign $3000.00 ono and it sold that day, I actaully was only seing
what interest I could get really, and was very shocked when I was offered
the $2800.00 for it.
That money helped me to repaint my wagon and to put
a little extra money in my visa card for that month (visa were happy for
once)
This does not include the $1200.00 I made in wages
and a little mark up on the 1600 wagon I saved from the crusher last year, the
wages were to get the engine all bolted together and for me to build one
running carby from the two I had spare.
So all up I am actually ahead with my Datsun 1600
SSS restoration project if you take all these things into account.
My 1600 wagon cost me much more to get to the
stage where she is now, I payed $500.00 for her and then had to get her running
and up to scratch just to rego her, then I
collected better panels for her that cost me a heap, and then I painted
her.
I am hoping, well once I get back into the
workforce, and the actual restoration project begins I will be able to finish
her for less than $5000.00 but hea budgets never go as planned as I am sure
everyone knows.
I know of one 1600 in Perth that owes the owner
over $10,000 and that was not for any restoration project, that was just the
prices he paid to get all the things he broke fixed.
As far as I know this car is on blocks still in his
front yard, but you get that.
Any how that is the story.
Have a great day.
Rick White.
